Worstead Festival

Saturday, July 27, 2019 to Sunday, July 28, 2019

We will be making our annual appearance at the lovely Worstead Festival, a great event for the whole family. Worstead is famous for the heavy cloth named after the village, that was woven here in the Middle Ages. An influx of weavers from Flanders in the 12th century led to a burgeoning industry in cloth production, and Worstead owes its prosperity to this industry. The weavers came at the invitation of Edward III, who married Philippa of Hainault, a Flemish princess. Many of the larger houses used by medieval weavers still stand in the town, and memorial brasses to several of the more prosperous weavers can be seen in St Mary's church. Come and chat to us and get a glimpse of life in the reign of Edward III when Worstead was famous throughout the land.
